A Breech in the System - DVD
Author: Karin Ecker
Item Code: DV0717
Category: Pregnancy and childbirth , Pregnancy and Birth
In A Breech in the System: A Natural Breech Against the Odds, Karin Ecker records her personal struggle to achieve a natural (vaginal) breech birth within the hospital system while faced with ongoing opposition to her choice. Like most women with a breech presentation, Karin was encouraged to have a caesarean and it was only through her determination and the support of friends, her midwife and her doula, and chancing upon a supportive and experienced obstetrician, that she was able to birth naturally in the hospital. The film focuses on the lead-up to the birth, showing the difficulties in finding health professionals willing and able to support a natural breech birth. It also includes footage of the labour and the birth, and the breech birth is clearly shown. A Breech in the System also includes interviews with the midwife and obstetrician who supported Karin’s birth, and discussion on the possibility of safe, natural breech births with supportive and experienced health professionals.
